Many, many gurus teach that niche marketing is the only way to make good money as an affiliate marketer. That all the big, popular markets are taken and hard to make money from.

This is so far from the truth. While it is true that you can easily dominate an obscure niche, ask yourself how much money you can actually make off it?

An obscure niche means that few people are interested in it. You are starting off with a small target pool of potential customers. You now have the daunting task of getting them to buy.

And you know that not every potential customer actually becomes a paying customer. Not every one of them opens their wallet. So now the number of people who will buy from you (or through your affiliate link) just became even smaller.

Instead of focusing on an obscure niche focus on big markets. Pick a big one like weight loss or dieting or personal development. You will probably hear that it is impossible to get a high search engine, that the market is saturated, that there are already too many players in the big markets. All of these may be true.

What is also true is that there are now so many, many more prospects. Your potential pool is so large that all you need is to capture the attention of a small minuscule percentage.

And it really is easy to capture the attention of a small percentage of a big, rabid market. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. With some viral marketing, some basic search engine optimization and link building, you can get the traffic you need to make you good money.
